PowerShell: Get Network Adapter Speed

Need to check the link speed of a network adapter - for confirming a Gigabit connection, troubleshooting a slow network, or hardware inventory? This one-liner pulls it straight from the system.

Prerequisites:

  • Privileges: None
  • Module: Built-in, no import needed

Quick Command:

Get-NetAdapter | Select-Object Name, LinkSpeed

Example Output:

Name LinkSpeed
---- ---------
Bluetooth Network Conn. 3 Mbps

How It Works:

  • Get-NetAdapter returns every network adapter recognized by the system, alongside its current link speed.
  • LinkSpeed shows the negotiated connection speed in a readable format - already converted to Mbps/Gbps rather than a raw number.
  • An adapter showing 0 bps (like Wi-Fi here) typically means it's disconnected or inactive - the machine is using a different adapter (Ethernet) for its actual connection.
